Melaka is known for its historical opulent state and is acknowledged as one that embodied the spirit of a nation, forged through the crucible of a tumultuous and intricate history. Founded by a former prince from Sumatra around 1400 (during an escape attempt ended up in Melaka) turned out to be a strong seafaring trading state where an influx of merchant ships from India and China started to trade.
In time Melaka grew into one of the centre entreport trade in South-East Asia today. In 2008 UNESCO listed Malacca as World Heritage Site. Besides the many beautiful historical sites Melaka is also well known for its sumptuous food.
